I find it odd that anyone would say that being in the crouched position all the time would be the definition of "Tactical Realism". I would never think of just crouching to cover in real life if someone was shooting at me. That is just stupid. I can see the enemy saying: "Hey, move slower so I can hit you! Don't run because it is too hard to hit you! Crouch or lay down so I have more time to aim at you!" Due to this small amount of allowed running, our server is the most tactically realistic crouch server out there right now.
I guess that most of you just don't understand that crouching all the time gets you killed and makes the game frustrating. It just promotes camping. "If I move, I get killed, I will just stay here and wait for someone to move slowly across my field of fire"
It also seems that most have decided that "running" and "running & gunning" are the same no matter how well it is explained to this group.
We are trying out the ACE mod right now for a week or so. It has some features that the AWE, Xtreme, and others didn't have. We are also trying out the in game chat. We may or may not keep it.
I am wondering now, with the mod comment, if your group will also try to determine or dictate what mod must be used on a server if that clan wants to be part of this little group.
I reviewed the very rigid looking rules as "drafted" by Jazz and read all the comments.
I see a few things there:
1. This looks more and more like a dictatorship.
2. All of the servers in this group will be the same as the rules won't allow for any sort of individuality to let your clan/server stand out.
3. Even with meetings on ts, we are all human beings and will not agree on everything all of the time. So, how soon before someone just says "I am out" because, as seen here, people will never understand, now matter how you explain it to them. Either they are too narrow minded to accept it, or are too proud to admit that they could be wrong, and that there is another definition out there. (Take a look at any dictionary and there is almost always more than one definition for any word)
Some more suggestions for improvement:
1. I would stay away from making rules, I suggest that they be "guidelines" which are less rigid such as:
a. Shooting must be from the crouch or prone position unless looking over objects or out windows.
Guidelines allow each clan to define their rules around this rule, rather than say "you can't run at all", which goes back to unrealistic gameplay. If a clans rules fall under these 'guidelines', then they would be welcome here.
There are hundreds of "you can't run at all" type of servers out there. Why would I want to play on the 509th if it is the same as the 1stRangers and the 1stRBN servers? What brings people into a server? Is it the same exact thing as another server that I play on? No, the concepts are the same, but they have slightly different rules and gameplay.
I may play at the 509th, for example, if I want a slower pace or a certain feature. I may play at the 1stRBN because the killcam takes away the "questionable" death I just received or because I can run back to where the action is across a very large map when their are few players.
2. Put up a roster or organizational chart of who is who here, and some sort of bylaws to let people know what they are getting themselves into. (Maybe the home page, rather than a list of banners) How and why does this site exist? How do you join, or be part of it. What are the benefits being part of this group?
I returned here because I was told that people are responding to my posts. I like helping others and have done so with setting up websites, servers, and ts for other clans. As long as people are straight with me, I will bend over backwards to help them.
This thread actually kind of surprises me. It seems very negative towards our clan and servers. No matter how I answer the questions, they never seem to satisfy anyone. They just bring out more negative comments or more questions.
Is it because we have a very strong support website and have our rules posted for all to see? Our clan members are on the same page with rules and we deal with issues quickly? We are always improving our servers and trying new things. We take in suggestions of others, including what we see here.
It took us about a year to get our COD1 server where we wanted it. We now just make subtle changes every once in a while to continue to improve gameplay. Being satisfied with your server and rigid in your rules is the best way to quickly empty a server.
I would hope that your clans are doing the same, not settling for the way it is. I am sure that there are problems on every server and with every clan out there. Some are ignored and some are addressed. I would hope that you are all striving for improvement and making changes to make the game more realistic, tactical, and fun.
Our COD1 server is ranked in the top 25 in the gametracker rankings. It is obvious to me that people enjoy our gameplay as it is nearly always full.
I hear a lot of positive comments and some negative ones too regarding our server. When I hear the comments, I always ask "What can you suggest to correct this problem or make it even better?"
Once again, visit our servers and see for yourself. I have limited playing time due to my living out in the boondocks and my ping of 2000 while at home. Therefore, I am only able to play from work, which is marginal at best. I will try to get on some of the other servers to see how things are set-up.
