Made this post in our forums and thought maybe you guys would have help from it…
Hey "dudes"
Most of you guys use rcon tools from the desktop, which is fine, but with the new game I find it takes a lot longer to switch back into game and for some reason I get blue screens sometimes... So using the console is an efficient and easy way to manage the server.
We'll start with logging on:
To login to the console, you would type the following in the console:
/rcon login pword
Since this is a vulnerable way to show everyone on the server the rcon password incase you somehow were an IDIOT and didn't type slash, I don't suggest you do that at all, therefore, I suggest everyone that uses the console like I do in WaW/COD4 to set it as a bind in your config. For COD4, you can just make a copy of your COD4 multiplayer shortcut, and right click on it, in properties, copy and paste this into the "target". Now once you click this icon it will open up the game logged into the console connected to your server.
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +rcon login pword+connect 1.2.3.45:28960
(Enter any IP address and your own rcon password)
For WaW, treyarch are full of airheads so this feature doesn't work... Congrats on the stupidness...
Therefore the alternative to login to rcon safely will place a bind in your config. By default in XP, the WaW config can be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jake\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\Jake_HT
(You must have hidden files shown to view the application data folders, so on the top of explorer, click tools, folder options > view tab, check "show hidden files/folders")
Cod4 config is found:
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\Jake_HT
Where "Jake" and "Jake_HT" will be your own names, of course...
You can open the config_mp.cfg file using microsoft word, or another related word processing program.
Once in there, you will see a bunch of lines, including binds, cg's, com's, and all sorts of stuff you probably don't know what it is. Binds will be listed at the top, and you can enter your own in there. Make a new line in the middle of these binds, and copy and paste the following:
bind F5 "rcon login pword"
Then save the config_mp.cfg file and close it. You must restart the game before changes take effect. This same bind will work for login on COD4.
Now when you log into the game and connect to your server, just press F5 and it will log you into rcon safely just like that.
Now for the fun stuff.
To display the punkbuster view of everyone on the server, type:
/rcon pb_sv_plist
Now you can press SHIFT + Console key to display the full console, and see everyone listed in PB from numbers 0-30+ (depending on how many slots your server is)
You can place a bind for this in your config, just copy and paste this into a new bind line in your config:
bind F6 "pb_sv_plist"
You can also use:
/rcon status
This will display every player's rcon number, in a similar way to PB. To see the effect again, press SHIFT + Console
To kick using rcon, you would type:
/rcon clientkick 1 (where 1 is the player's rcon number)
This will be a 0 minute kick.
/rcon banclient 1 (bans rcon number 1)
To kick with punkbuster (the preferred method) you would type:
/rcon pb_sv_kick 0 1 running (this will kick number 0 for 1 minute displayed reason will be running)
/rcon pb_sv ban 0 (this will ban number 0) For bans...
***Please note that /rcon status and /rcon pb_sv_plist are 2 separate lists... do not punkbuster kick using the numbers listed by status, they are NOT the same.
You can use the console for much more things now that you're logged in. These are some that I know:
/rcon map mp_mapname (changes the map to desired mapname)
/rcon g_gametype tdm (sets to TDM)
/rcon g_gametype koth (sets to HQ)
/rcon g_gametype dm (sets to freeforall)
/rcon g_gametype dom (sets to domination)
/rcon g_gametype sd (sets to S&D)
/rcon g_gametype sab (sets to sabatoge)
/rcon g_gametype twar (sets to war)
You will have to type gametype setting before you change the map. If you rotate a map before setting the gametype it will be the same gametype as the one it was just on.
/rcon map_restart (fully restarts the map)
/rcon fast_restart (restarts the round, don't have to re-load the map)
You must fully restart the map before the gametype will change, fast restarts will not change the gametype.
/rcon quit (resets the server back to square 1, incase something messes up)
/rcon exec maprotation.cfg (executes the maprotation)
/rcon say hey (will display "hey" to the whole server from the console)
/rcon tell 1 hey (will show rcon player number 1 from "/rcon status": hey, nobody else on the server will see this)
These are all I know... Good luck trying it and if you have ANY questions, please ask me. It's best to try this stuff when you're alone on the server but it's not rocket science to figure out.. If you want to test kick yourself, make sure you use 0 minutes... Pay attention to the numbers of the players, the console moves as punkbuster messages update, therefore you have to keep a close eye if you chose not to scroll up to cancel auto-scroll.
Thanks for the read, hope I helped some people. Sure took me a while to make this.
