Thanks. However, I'm sure I'm not the only one here with 2 cents. How about some other folks?!?

I see other threads talking about standards. Should we maybe consolidate the topic somewhere? This thread seemed to stop and no one has commented any further.

I think the starting point is what the community thinks the bottom limit to be considered Tactical Realism and two - what mod settings must be on to be considered Tactical Realism. If we have these the mod takes care of most of it. Sorry to sound like a broken record (CD?) but the auto admin for tactical realsim of the mod was not to have rules just a tactical realism gameplay environment so we could enjoy playing and not admin'ing the R&G...So I feel we should think of it in that terms now and not just server rules. It maybe the samething to you all but to me its a different paradigm.
And beyond that.. I would like to point out that we all know the past expliots like Dolphin diving in BF2 and Bunny Hopping in the older COD and MOH games. I don't see them being effective anymore with COD4 and just not a problem. But I don't play these older games anymore and you all may. The problem with Dolphin diving in BF2 is it gave you an exploit of not being damaged while you where diving which was just poor coding. In COD4 you lay down not dive which is a good tactic and not a diving exploit.

Setting rigid rules and dictating what a clan should do is not the way to go. Some general guidelines are a better way to build up this group.
Set the guidelines, allow for uniqueness within the clans and servers, and if a clan/server falls under the guidelines as stated, then accept them in.
If not, all the servers will have to be exactly the same. No ones server will stand out or be unique and no one will play. Why play on your server when mine is exactly the same. That is the quickest way to empty a server.
Auto-admin is a lazy excuse for clan members not to admin. Forcing someone to use a certain mod will have the same effect as noted above. Someone will always find a way around a mod or rule. A good human admin. and players on ts/vent can allow any problems to be corrected immediately.

Setting rigid rules and dictating what a clan should do is not the way to go. Some general guidelines are a better way to build up this group.. I don't think any 2 servers are set exactly the same, just similair. Some allow grenafdes launnchers, some dont. Some have UAV and airstrikes some dont. Some play CTF and Domination, some play only TDM. Some allow mor runing that others with different "punishments". Auto-admin is a lazy excuse for clan members not to admin. Forcing someone to use a certain mod will have the same effect as noted above. Someone will always find a way around a mod or rule. A good human admin. and players on ts/vent can allow any problems to be corrected immediately. These add ons help admin, they do not replace admining your server. A player can't really dispute if they are shooting from the hip or running past the allowed paramaters on the server ( I already know how you feel about this one). Player only messages tell them and the beautiful gloabl message so everyone knows. Hip shooting times on a map? run limiter message 7 times? You don't always see these when you are playing, these add ons help.

As long as the auto-admin features are used as a tools and not relied on to take the place of a real person.
The server messages are great but I don't believe that a lot of people pay attention to them. I recently changed the color of my messages to help them stand out more.
My response was more towards the person who stated they did not want to admin, but only wanted to play.
That works well as a pro for the kill cam. Don't use it if you don't feel the need, but it is there if you have the thought "no way he could have seen me". A lot of times, I find that I am not as hidden as I thought that I was once I see the kill cam shot.
As long as all these "auto admins" are used to help the server admins, I have no problem with them.

Hey Joker, good to see you here.
Hey Jazz, I'm sure everyone agrees we don't specifically state the rules, but simply state a few general guidelines similar to what's been stated previously, so that anyone seeing a NoRnG server will have a general idea of what to expect when they come check any of us out. So how do we get that going?

Very good discussion..two more cents... Not in favor of strict rules but (one more time) BUT we need to construct a minimum gameplay environment (not sure that this best discribes it) to be considered as TR. As we just experienced with an interested clan their ideas on TR vs R&G are not what most of us feel is the counter-point to run & gun. If we think of the goal as minimums it maybe easier to come to some agreed bullet points. Good point on the mods settings - they are "SETTABLE" and every clan can do its know style or variant on the theme of Tactical Realism and with other ways also like uber admin's to keep it TR.

I agree we don't need to dictate any specific rule sets. Rather, a basic set of guidelines make sense. Perhaps instead of bullet pointing these guidlines, we simply craft a mission statement that plainly explains what we're about. . . The participating servers you will find here at NoRnG are run by a set of like-minded gamers that tend to employ similar tactical approaches to their game styles. Crouching instead of running is the preferred method of hunting player objectives. Jumping and running around is not what we're all about. While several different tactical concepts may be deployed in different ways across these servers, the overall basic approach is with a non-running, tactical objective hunt. If you're interested in playing this kind of style, or perhaps you run a server that follows similar guidelines, then you've come to the right place. Welcome!OK feel free to edit, but I think something like this on the front of the site as a welcome, is probably all we need. ?

Nice - if I may... The participating servers and associated clans you will find here at NoRnG are run by a set of like-minded gamers that employ similar tactical approaches to their game styles which we like to call "Tactical Realism". Crouching instead of running is the preferred method of movement against opposing players and objectives. Welcome! But its still a little too open to interpretation IMHO but great start.

No problem. Sounds good like this too. Perhaps just take out the Preferred and let it say . . . "Crouching instead of running is the method of movement against opposing players and objectives." I think anything further will get into too much detail and we'll run into those differences again. At least this will give an idea of what to expect. A separate but related idea is to have another page with a chart. On the chart list the majority of situations we can think of going down. Running, Shotting from the hip, Camping, Going Prone, etc. Then list the participating servers and clans going across. Then specify the clarification in each box. THis way the above mission statement defines an overview of what we are, and players can easily browse for their favorite flavor of that statement. Style | Clan A | Clan B | | Running | None. | Only for cover. | | HIp Shooting | Emergency only | Allowed |

Like I said, just throwing it out there....Thanks!

Another good idea - need a column A list now Our list would look like this : Running - Mod limited - X meters and X seconds between runs Hip Shooting - Mod Limited - shell shock occurs Bunny Hopping - limited by Running parameter in MOD - go ahead and look stupid just before you die. Spawn Camping - request you back off if map is poorly coded for spawn points. Spawn Protection - invisability & weapon disable X seconds Team Kills - Penalty after X kills - Kick after X kills - Ban after X kills - Ban limit - X minutes Language and Name Tags - keep it clean and non-offensive[if you can't say it to their face don't wimp out and say it here] - We like playing with mature players not 10 year olds going on 24. Weapons Limits: One sniper per squad Air Strikes - X kills Attack Chopper - X kills Enemy Location HUD - none Unique Attributes: Custom Maps with high speed map loads Comments: with the exception of language, the Mod will define the gameplay environment - just have fun. If you experience your tenth shell shock in two minutes - you may want to go back to a run & gun server. JK

I like whats been written, here is a slight revision to what you wrote baddad
The associated clans you will find here at NoRnG are run by a set of like-minded gamers that employ similar tactical approaches to their game styles which we like to call "Tactical". Crouching instead of running (standing upright and gun at your side. Sprinting is also included in this definition) is the method of movement against opposing players and objectives. Jumping and running around is not what we're all about. While several different tactical concepts may be deployed in different ways across these clans and their servers, the universal gameplay is with a non-running, tactical objective hunt. If you're interested in playing this kind of style, or perhaps you run a server that follows similar guidelines, this may be the place for you.
Removing the Realism word to distinguish ourselves from the TR clans since they do not enforce a crouch rule.
